Actively engaged in education
At Darrow, we put learning into action.
In classrooms, students engage in energized dialogue and spirited debate about classic areas of study. They are challenged to step up, apply their talents to a dynamic curriculum, and become an active participant in their education.
Across our campus, they engage in hands-on experiments, artistic and athletic pursuits, innovative environmental practices, and service learning that brings their education to life through hard work that’s meaningful and fun.
Darrow is for students who are ready to learn with their hands on, their minds on, and their hearts open.
Our curriculum: Traditional topics balanced by individual exploration
Darrow combines traditional subject areas with highly creative elective areas of study that allow students to cultivate their own passions and fascinations. It’s about balance.
We strongly believe in the value of liberal arts studies – world language, the arts, history, math, science, and literature. But we do always not teach these topics in traditional ways. Through project-based learning, dynamic classrooms, cross-curricular instruction, and the natural creative talent of our teachers, Darrow students acquire intellectual skills in new, exciting ways.
We believe equally that students must discover their own passions, learn to ask essential questions, construct meaning, test ideas, and contribute to a learning community. This is why we offer more electives than many other private schools.
Darrow graduates are more than ready for college not only because they’ve received a premium liberal arts education, but because they know how to work hard, push boundaries, receive criticism, question assumptions, solve problems, and express their own thinking.
Life at Darrow
There are many boarding schools in the northeast, and each one has its own character.
Ask around, and you’ll probably find that life at Darrow is defined by a feeling of sincere acceptance among students, and academic challenges backed by unwavering support from faculty, staff, and leadership.
The collective spirit of the Darrow community creates a place that brings out the best of each member.
Ultimately, it is a feeling that must be experienced directly to be understood, which is why we invite anyone interested to pay us a visit, walk our campus, and talk to our students.
