Joining the Advancement Department in 2010 as the Assistant Director of the growing.greener sustainability initiative, Craig's role today is to extend the Darrow brand through communications, events, outreach, fundraising, and more. As Sustainability Co-coordinator, Craig’s work supports co-curricular programs that facilitate a unique curriculum of place that prepares community members for leadership in sustainability. After living on campus for 13 years, Craig and his family found their dream home and moved to Otis, MA, in 2013.

Alexandra Heddinger

Alex has been integrally involved in all facets of the operation of the Advancement Office since 1999, demonstrating her understanding and passion for the work and for the mission of the School.  In her current role, she is focused on building connection with Darrow’s alumni and on raising crucial funds for the operation of the School.

Prior to joining Darrow, Alex spent 15 years behind the scenes as a professional stage manager and lighting designer for several dance companies, and as the production coordinator for Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. She is originally from Maryland, but now lives in a 130-year-old renovated schoolhouse in Lee, MA, with her husband, Marc. Their two sons, Benjamin, Class of 2013, and Zachary, Class of 2014. She is also an enthusiastic reader and traveler and welcomes any recommendations on either of those topics.

Lawrence Klein, Esq.

Lawrence has a range of unique experience in development, fundraising, and community outreach, especially through the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art in New York City, which he founded in 2001, and for which he served as chairman and president. Lawrence's legal background as in-house counsel for high-tech companies gives him invaluable perspective into contracts and business agreements, allowing him to also serve as Darrow’s General Counsel.

Lawrence’s primary responsibilities are Darrow’s Major Gifts and Planned Giving Legacy programs, and he helps to manage capital campaign initiatives and other fundraising efforts. As part of his plan to meet Darrow alumni, Lawrence travels far and near, including travel to Asia, Europe, and the continental United States. He volunteers on the boards of several local nonprofits, curates exhibits around the globe, is a character in the “Dick Tracy” cartoon strip, and is also a competitive UTV racer. Lawrence lives in Pittsfield, MA, with his wife, Sarah, and two children.

Steven Ricci

Steve joined Darrow in 2011, bringing with him extensive experience in the field of nonprofit institutional communications and marketing. After beginning his career in journalism as a reporter, editor, and photographer for a number of magazines, trade journals, and daily and weekly newspapers, he began working in institutional communications for universities, schools, museums, and agencies serving nonprofits.

At Darrow, Steve is responsible for internal and external communications, including media relations, public relations, website communications, advertising, social media, e-newsletters, and printed marketing materials. He also serves as editor of Peg Board, Darrow's alumni magazine. Steve and his wife, Rhea, live in Averill Park, NY.

Deborah Vittone
Advancement Office Assistant

Deborah supports all aspects of fundraising, including gift recording, as well as communications, alumni relations, and special events. Prior to working at Darrow, she was the assistant to the development director for the Catholic Schools of Pittsfield. Deborah lives in Pittsfield, MA, with her husband, and has five grown children.

Sarah Frederick

Sarah came to Darrow to assist with the growing.greener initiative and has since joined the department full-time. Coming from a diverse background in event planning, she has worked in restaurants and the catering industry for more than five years. Before joining Darrow, Sarah utilized her event-planning skills in the nonprofit sector as the marketing manager for the Springfield Business Improvement District, and as an event coordinator, planner, and marketer for the City of Pittsfield, MA.

At Darrow, Sarah plans and coordinates a number of campus events such as Family Weekends, Reunion, and Commencement. She also oversees summer programs and rentals by outside parties, such as camps and weddings. Sarah lives in Cheshire, MA, with her husband, Ryan, and their daughter, Kensley.
