Betsy Strickler, Director of Admission

After earning a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, Betsy began her professional career in the education field as Assistant Director of Admissions at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine; College Counselor at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts; and Associate Director of Admission for Miss Hall's School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

In joining Darrow, Betsy returned to the world of independent schools following successful positions in marketing, sales, and promotion, including Director of Sales and Marketing for Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock, Massachusetts. Betsy remains active on the Boards of 1Berkshire Strategic Alliance, Berkshire Initiative for Growth, and the Berkshire Visitors Bureau.

Kyle Akeley, Assistant Director of Admission

A graduate of Gettysburg College, where she earned degrees in Psychology and Anthropology, Kyle joins the Darrow Admissions team as Assistant Director of Admission. While at Gettysburg, she worked extensively with the Admissions department as a presenter and Senior Admissions Assistant. For Darrow, Kyle travels extensively to connect with students and their families, serves as a head House Parent in Meacham, and as an advisor to sports teams and clubs.

Sam Carton, Assistant Director of Admission (Class of 2010)

Sam, a Darrow graduate, returned to his alma mater after attending Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he earned his degree in music with an emphasis on conducting. 

His musical talents, which include playing guitar, piano, bass, drums, and singing, can be seen at Coffee House and other areas of the Darrow program where talent and improvisation are on display. "The years I spent at Darrow were a defining experience in my life," he said. "I enjoy mentoring and advising students with what I’ve learned here.” In addition to his Admissions work, Sam serves as an advisor and house parent in Hinckley.

Lorrie Wechter, Office Manager/Registrar

Lorrie is a longtime member of the admission team and as Registrar of the School, she works closely with the College Guidance Office. As the first person many families meet when they come to Admissions, she is a key organizer and keeper of information. A native of Berkshire County, Lorrie earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Westfield State College. She enjoys days in the office assisting colleagues and families alike.
